Translating messages

To add a new translation or fix existing translations, navigate to translatewiki.net, register an account, and ask for permission to translate FUDforum's messages into your local language. You will be granted access within hours after which you can start adding new/ fixing existing translations.

When done, go to your forum's Message Editor Control Panel to download the latest messages to your site.

New and updated translations from translatewiki.net will periodically be committed to our SVN repository and will hence automatically be included into future releases.

Site specific translations

New translations should preferably be created on translatewiki.net. The below procedure can be used to create local (site specific) translations:

  • Create a new theme (or use a custom theme - do not use a default theme, as it will be overwritten when you upgrade the forum).
  • Create a i18n/langcode directory in the theme's directory (for example .../thm/mytheme/i18n/en).
  • Create a "msg" file and add the messages you want to change to it. Do not add messages that can be inherited from "msg" files in the default theme. For example, if you want a site specific translation for "Topic Description:" (post_descr), enter something like this:
post_descr: Product version:

Translation status

The status of any given translation can be viewed on translatewiki.net.

A utility, tr_status.php (in install/forum_data/thm/default/i18n), is also available after checking out the code from SVN to show translation statistics per language.
